Reflection

Every surface of Shelter has been individually textured by hand with a chisel, creating a subtle rhythm that allows light to move differently across the charred American Oak. As the sculpture is circled, the surface shifts between softness and shadow, revealing new qualities with each change in perspective.

While making the work, the scent of the timber evoked bourbon barrels, bringing with it a sense of age, craft and time held within the grain. Like those vessels, the sculpture carries traces of what has passed through it.

It reminds us that surfaces often hold stories long after the moment itself has gone.
