About Scott Hawkland
My practice is driven by curiosity.
For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to making with my hands. Timber has always fascinated me, not simply as a material, but as something that carries memory, growth and time within every grain.
Before dedicating myself to sculpture I worked across several trades, each teaching me different ways of understanding material, precision and craftsmanship. Those experiences continue to influence my practice today, where traditional making techniques meet an ongoing exploration of form and landscape.
Nature remains my greatest teacher.
Walking through forests, observing weathered timber, seed pods, fungal forms and the rhythms found throughout the environment continually shape the work I create.
Each sculpture becomes a response to these experiences rather than a direct representation of them.
My hope is that the work creates quiet moments of connection.
Moments where people slow down, notice, breathe and perhaps reconnect with something within themselves that is often overlooked in everyday life.
