Enduring

Reflection

Enduring is a smaller exploration that informed my larger sculpture, Breath. Cavities carved throughout the form create passages for light, shadow and air, allowing the sculpture to feel as though it continues to breathe even after being transformed by fire.

The charred surface softens reflected light while the openings invite movement through the work, suggesting that transformation need not close us off. Instead, it can create new ways for life to move through us.

What appears solid is, in fact, continually exchanging with the space around it.
