Passages

Reflection

The history of a tree is written beneath its bark. Each growth ring records another season, years of abundance, years of hardship, years of quiet persistence.

In Passages, carved channels follow these rings rather than cutting across them, allowing the sculpture to move with the timber's own story. Layers of ink, fire, wood dust and gold pigment soften the surface into something that feels unearthed rather than newly made, echoing the gentle patina that only time can create.

The work is less about carving timber than about revealing what has always been there. It asks us to consider time not as something lost, but as something held within us.
